The Proposal
Trey,
I should sleep or work at the moment, as I have absolutely to prepare my applications for the London universities. Buuut, I cannot at the moment as I am allways thinking about magazines and how we could collaborate.
And I have an idea. I know, that you havent seen husk so far and don’t know my work so far, but only know the blog that is offline now. And I have to tell you that saying that my financial situation has to get a bit better thah it is at the moment, but i am sure it will…
Sooo: We could produce the Husk or whatever issue for this summer or this fall (so a a/w issue or a issue without any season, i have to tell you that i actually dont like this season stuff and i dont know why i called the husk issue ss 2010 especially for a german with ss and stuff, but okay too much thinking right now). We would publish it via ZíNZíN “my publishing house” here in Germany (advantages: existing structures with some pr-agencies, the nationalbibliothek, we have a issn and a ean code, i have contact to some retailers and to people that could perhaps do advertisment but i will come to this point later).
I would like to suggest you something really big, like full color and 1000 pages and terry richardson as photographer and dior as main advertiser. but, yeah, you know…
Instead of this I would like to suggest you a advertisment-free (perhaps except for one really cool ad on the backcover inside - not outside except they pay more) magazine with 60-80 pages, a 195x279 mm format (thats so specific as im thinking of a specific printer) and a run of 100 copies, better paper than husk has now, like 100 or 120 g/m² offset paper and 280g efalin paper, which is really great, for the cover. a 4/1 cover and bw content, softcover or stitch binding, thats dependent of paper and the number of sites.
So we could create a very unique publication, doing what we want, like no pr-agency fuck which i already noticed with husk magazine (we worked with more than 10 agencies for this issue!) but just fashion, art, people, interviews, photography - the stuff we like. Just fashion beyond surface, perhaps kind of like anti-fashionhabits.
I suggest you to be the editor, together with me and thats it - perhaps a thirs person from berlin, but im not sure yet. you dont have to pay anything, get like 5-10 free copies, we can distribute it online and do the marketing (perhaps one day some pr agencies will book an ad). The only thing would be that I may do the design.
Perhaps that is a suggestion for you that works, please let me know what you would do differently what you want and perhaps we can soon find a concept and an basic idea for it.
I am very euphoric at the moment as this idea fascinates me and I think we could to something great. We also have a running collab with LeBook - the network thing for the media industry, which is quite interesting. Unofrt I wont be able to attend the Hamburg meeting which would be great as a lot of brands from Chanel to Adidas are represented there.
But we could see it like a dummy issue, a great dummy issue and look how it works. I calclated it and the price per issue would be 11,50 euro in europe (perhaps a bit less) when we sell 80% of the run. the only problem will be that we dont have tooo many contributors that want a print copy as the calculation otherwise becomes false. As I have contact to retailers across Europe, we could sell 30% of the issues in shops (they normally get 40-45% of the cover price) and 50% online.
Okay, so much,
I am really looking forward to what you will say and I hope its not fuck off or nothing;)
And I hope Husk arrives soon. But Im beginning to save my money as Im fearing I have to send it again. Fuck off Deutsche Post I hate them so much. I have to tell you that: I dont have any other possibility than sending it with deutsche post. when i send it like standard in an envelope dina4 size to canada as “magazine or book without adverts” im paying 10 euros for delivery. when i send it via airmail i pay 12 euros (there is no insurance for both, so when theyre gone theyre gone and nobody tells - i had that several times), a package costs 13,90 euros (thats not secued and not by air) and a paket, which would be by air and secured costs - 35 euros! I hate them, I hate them I hate them. They destroyed many of the magazines I sent here in Germany. Hate Hate Deutsche Post.
Okay, thats it.
Stop
Best
