With NYFW everywhere you look, it’s getting a little sickening. Personally, I think it’s quite hilarious that tumblr has “tagged on” to the marketability of fashion week, and decided to, excuse the pun, “tag” along for the ride. Whatever, tumblr. You’re such a hip platform. So basically, everybody has been super into technical sportswear or whatever, dressing up helmets à la Aeon Flux but if she all of a sudden got lazy and started wearing sweats. This Marc by Marc collection reminds me a bit of Acne, my FAVOURITE brand (paid endorsement). People have been walking around in parachutes of leather, bizarre capes and creepy backpacks. Leave it to Marc to tone things down a bit, with an albeit banal minimalism, that somehow works when put into the context of NYFW. Prabal Gurung was Prada, Alexander Wang was well thought out (save for those urinal pads worn as bandanas), Lacoste was ugly, and Thakoon was at a hallucinogenic tea party with Gene Wilder. I don’t have a lot of praise for Marc Jacobs, but here he saves the day with some normalcy, something that we’ve all been craving.
