Silviu Tolu Interview

TT: Did you actually have that bible passage memorized?
ST: Yes, I did.
TT: Do you go to church? Or just read the bible?
ST: It’s from the movie.
TT: Jackie brown?
ST: Pulp fiction.
TT: Is that your favourite film?
ST: One of them.
TT: What are the others?
ST: There a lot of them. The Untouchables, Casino, Casablanca, Lucky Number Slevin.
TT: You want to become an actor, right?
ST: That’s what I aim for, yeah.
TT: So modeling is an interim type venture.
ST: Not at all. Now I’m modeling. If acting is going to show up, then fine. I’m not doing modeling to get to something.
TT: Are you interested in clothes?
ST: Yes, I am.
TT: Any favourite designers?
ST: I can’t tell you a favourite one.

TT: How were you discovered?
ST: Do you want the long story or the short one?
TT: I want the interesting one.
ST: Okay, so I got discovered by the scouter of my mother agency through a friend of mine.
TT: Okay, what’s the long version?
ST: This friend of mine wanted me to know someone who was the wife of the scouter of my mother agency and they owned an agency together so that’s how I got on the internet. But I prefer the first one.
TT: Oh, okay and you’re from Bucharest?
ST: That’s my hometown.
TT: Do you still live there?
ST: Yes.
TT: So are you still in school?
ST: Yep, still in high school. I’m graduating this summer.
TT: Are there a lot of misconceptions about models or modeling?
ST: Misconceptions? Like, errors in understanding the modeling thing?
TT: Yeah. Like, most models I’ve talked to tell me how it’s not glamourous like people think, but I’ve heard that one, so I wanted to know if you had anything different.
ST: Well most of them think that everything is pink and sweet.
TT: Models think everything is pink and sweet?
ST: Nope the others think that.

TT: Alright. Do you think you look different than most of the other models?
ST: Well, do I look like other models?
TT: If you’re asking my opinion I would say that there are a lot of black haired, blue eyed models. But you definitely look unique. Is there anyone you look up to?
ST: What do you mean?
TT: Somebody you take inspiration from, or want to be like.
ST: If you’re thinking another model, nope. But I think I inspire myself from everything I see around me, people, nature, objects.
TT: So no one person has had an affect on your life?
ST: I didn’t mean that. At least, my parents definitely had. You mean an idol, right?
TT: Yeah, sort of, I guess.
ST: Cause I mean, I told you, everything I see around me affects me in one way or another.
TT: Are you on twitter yet?
ST: I’m not on twitter, no.
TT: Okay. If you could win free tickets to any concert, any musician dead or alive, whose concert would it be?
ST: That’s a tough one. It would be either Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, or Elvis Presley because Bob Dylan is coming to Romania so I’ll probably go to his concert.
TT: Do a lot of bands go to Romania?
ST: Well, they started to bring them cause they saw it works. So we will have ACDC. We had Uriah Heep a few years ago, and Madonna.
TT: Can you imagine yourself living anywhere other than Romania?
ST: Yes, I can.
TT: Do you like it there, or are you excited to leave?
ST: I like it here.
TT: Where can you see yourself moving?
ST: New York, Los Angeles, maybe Paris, maybe Moscow—crowded places. I haven’t been to LA and Moscow.
TT: Do you read any magazines?
ST: Yes, National Geographic and then everything related to fashion that I can read. L’Officiel Hommes, ELLE Man, Vogue Homme, Esquire, GQ.
TT: Is that because you feel compelled to know a lot about the industry you work in, or based solely on interest?
ST: I’m doing my homework. Like I said before, I’m trying to learn a bit from everywhere. If I’ll see a brilliant shooting I might get inspired to wear something I saw there.

TT: What did your parents think when you became a model? Were you shocked?
ST: No, they were not shocked. They didn’t know very well what it’s all about so they were, let’s say, a little bit hesitant. But we figured it out.
TT: Do you have any hidden talents?
ST: I don’t think so. I’m playing basketball, soccer. I never did it professional, like playing at sport clubs or something. Not really. I’ll blame it all on faith.
TT: Would you describe yourself as ambitious?
ST: I’m trying at least.
TT: Is there anything I didn’t ask you about that you want to tell everyone?
ST: I’m pretty sleepy right now. I don’t think so.
TT: Perfect. Thanks a lot.
ST: You’re welcome. Nighty night! g
