Elliot Jiminez Interview

Elliot Jiminez, a photographer from Miami, is definitely one to watch. His ethereal style, use of natural light, and all around attitude-filled photography is a sure sign of success. You can check out Elliot’s portfolio here. He’s worked with many a gorgeous model and is working out of his Miami studio. His work has been described as spine-tingling, innocent, mesmerizing, haunting and sublime. Elliot and I sat down for a nice chat last night, and he had quite a lot to say from Jennifer Pugh to Natalie Portman.

Trey: Okay, for those who haven’t heard of you, how would you describe your style?
Elliot: Something simple with a dream quality to it. I’m attracted to ethereal things and I try to incorporate that into my work.

Trey: Do ideas just pop into your head or do you have to hesh out the details for awhile?
Elliot: Ideas will pop into my head at any given time, anything around me can serve as initial inspiration.

Trey: What are you inspired by?
Elliot: Cinematography.

Trey: Do you have any particular films in mind?
Elliot: That I like? I’m obsessed with Guillermo del Torro’s spanish films like Pan’s Labyrinth.

Trey: That is one good movie.
Elliot: Agreed!

Trey: There is this guy on youtube who reenacts a whole bunch of movies with just stuff around his house, and he does Pan’s Labyrinth. Not to ruin it for you but its pretty funny to watch..
Elliot: Hahaha, I think I’ve seen that.

Trey: Yeah, he wears these reindeer antlers and draws with marker on his face…
Elliot: Yes, I have seen it!

Trey: Okay, what is you’re favourite beverage?
Elliot: I’ll have to go with water, there’s nothing more refreshing to me.

Trey: I’m a big off topic person. Have you tried that smart water stuff thats from the clouds?
Elliot: Hmmm, you mean the water that’s flavored?

Trey: No. It’s just taken from the clouds. It’s a completely original idea.
Elliot: Really? Nope, I should try it then. There’s two things I have to do; watch 2001: A Space Odyssey and drink this water.

Trey: Okay, how about this then. Have you tried fiji water? It’s called fiji in the rectangle bottle. I swear they squeeze the droplets off rose petals right into the bottle. It tastes like a flower.
Elliot: Hahaha, yes I’ve had fiji water.

Trey: Well, thats a step in the right direction. Hedi Slimane or Steven Meisel?
Elliot: Ahhh, which one to pick…

Trey: You can say both. No pressure.
Elliot: I’ll say both, but Meisel has been an inspiration since I picked up my first camera; he’s the big guy people look up to.

Trey: If you could work with anybody — be it a MUA, model, photographer, celebrity — who would it be and why?
Elliot: Natalie Portman… that was hard.

Trey: Why? That’s probably even harder.
Elliot: Because if I could work with anybody, I’d probably want to work with everybody.

Trey: Haha but what is it about Nat P that you like? I did like her in V for Vendetta..
Elliot: Her look and personality, I fall in love with her everytime I see her in a movie. Yes, she was wonderful in V for Vendetta.

Trey: So you liked The Other Boleyn Girl?
Elliot: Yes I did.

Trey: What do you know?
Elliot: I know lots of things, what do you want to know?

Trey: Some of your insight. Give us a clue about life.
Elliot: We need to express more in life, show a little insanity. We’re all insane deep inside.

Trey: Yeah. Let’s not care what others think. I wear some crazy shit. Who is your favourite male and female model?
Elliot: Josh Beech and Jennifer Pugh

Trey: oh JB is definitely the man.
Elliot: Yep.

Trey: Any advice for up and comers?
Elliot: I think of myself as an up and comer, the best I can say is to focus; focus on what you want and go for it.

Trey: So you’re workin hard I gather?
Elliot: Yes I am!

Trey: That’s what i like to hear. Haha.
Elliot: Haha.

Trey: Okay leave us with something explosive.
Elliot: BOMB.

Trey: Haha perf. Thanks for the chat Elliot.
Elliot: You’re welcome! Thank you.
