For the spring season, most international versions of Vogue and other high fashion magazines challenged to use anything McQueen in their editorials, and most of them turned out amazing. Vogue Nippon’s May editorial The Girl From Atlantis is the most creative and adventurous, featuring the ‘girl’ (Alla Kostromichova) underwater. Photographed by Solve Sundsbø and styled by George Cortina, most of the shoot uses clothes from Alexander McQueen’s Plato Atlantis SS10 collection with the exception of a few Givenchy, Versace, and Mark Fast items. Looking back at this editorial, the thought of McQueen’s pieces being soaked in water is terrifying.
Even with the recent news of Lee McQueen’s suicide, the show must go on. Here is something you might not have seen. A shoot from the archives with amazing Lily Cole in 2005, the doll-like Brit teamed up with Sølve Sundsbo to create, what I believe to be, a timeless editorial. I mean, five years later I think this is still considered futuristic. Also happened upon this rare interview with the man himself at SHOWstudio.
I don’t quite comprehend what is so curves ahead about this editorial, people have been fat for ages. I do agree, however, with the introduction of plus-sized models in high fashion. Sølve Sundsbo brings us these paunchy proportional beauties in an astounding way. He always seems to be up to a challenge, and a challenge this would be. I can get used to this. Can’t wait for more from V magazine’s plus-sized issue. Via The Photography Link.
I’m taking a shot at featuring photographers you may never have heard of before. Maybe if one day they become the next Terry Richardson or Sølve Sundsbo then I’ll feel as though I had a hand in helping them rise to success. Even though I totally ripped this off one of my favourite sites Seeing is Stealing. I stole. It’s sort of Vice-like photography, but I like it. The glossy editorials sometimes need to be given a break. Cheers to new talent.
The new September issue of Vogue Italia Beauty features Alla Kostromicheva. Props to you if you can pronounce that bloody mouthful. Sølve takes super interesting photos. He even makes choking on a mesh scarf and being smothered by a sleeping bag look sexy. I’ve got a bit of a project underway. I can’t tell you all the deets but just know that it’s worth waiting for, because it will take awhile. Let’s just say it involves Mariano Vivanco as well as some other prominent photographers and artists…
